Construction continues to move forward at the future University of Utah Health Eccles Health Campus and Eccles Hospital in West Valley, bringing the community one step closer to expanded access to health care on the westside of the Salt Lake Valley.
If you’ve passed by the site recently, you may have noticed a new addition to the skyline: large construction cranes now rising above the project. Their installation marks an exciting milestone as the project moves into the next phase of vertical construction.
These cranes will help crews lift and place heavy structural materials as the framework of the future hospital and health campus begins to take shape. Over the coming months, neighbors will begin to see the campus rise more clearly as construction continues.
What Neighbors May Notice
As work progresses, we want to keep our neighbors informed about what to expect. During crane operations, you may occasionally hear whistles or airhorns coming from the site.
These sounds are a normal and required part of crane operations under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. They allow construction crews to communicate across the worksite and help maintain a safe environment for everyone involved in the project.
While the sounds may sometimes carry beyond the construction area, they are standard safety signals used on large projects and do not indicate an emergency.
The construction team remains committed to being respectful neighbors throughout the building process. Any construction noise, including crane safety signals, will occur only during regular construction hours. Crews continue working to minimize disruption to nearby homes, businesses, and schools while maintaining safe and efficient progress on the project.
Shaped by the Community
While construction is visible on the outside, important planning work is also happening behind the scenes. Interior design for the hospital and health campus is actively underway, and community voices are helping guide the process.
University of Utah Health leaders are working closely with local community leaders and a dedicated community steering committee to gather input on how the campus can best serve West Valley City and the surrounding areas. These conversations are helping shape decisions about patient spaces, cultural awareness, and the overall experience inside the facility.
From the beginning, community input has been central to the project’s planning. The goal is to create a health campus that not only delivers high-quality care but also feels welcoming and reflective of the community it will serve.
Looking Ahead
Construction of the Eccles Health Campus and Eccles Hospital remains on schedule. Outpatient services are expected to open in late 2028, with inpatient hospital services planned for 2029.
As the project moves forward, the cranes rising above the site are a visible reminder that progress is happening every day. Each phase of construction brings the campus closer to becoming a reality for West Valley and the surrounding communities.
